Introduction

We recently completed a successful project at Sofis, a leading manufacturer of valve operations systems such as mechanical valve interlocks. In this article, we are happy to share how our customized Key Management System helps to efficiently manage the authorization and tracking of physical keys for valve systems.

Project background

Sofis approached us with the challenge of developing a system that could manage the authorization and tracking of physical keys for their valve operations systems. These keys are critical to the safe and effective operation of these systems, and it is essential to ensure that only authorized users have access.

Our solution

Strategic IT has developed an advanced Key Management System that communicates seamlessly with a physical cabinet where keys are stored and recognized. Our system uses a touch panel where operators can log in and retrieve the keys they need.

The Key Management System includes the following features:

  • User Authentication: The operator logs in via the touch panel with a unique code or, if desired, via another authentication method such as a badge.
  • Authorization: The system verifies the operator's access rights based on his/her role and grants access only to the required keys.
  • Key tracking: every key issued is logged in the system, so there is always a clear record of who owns which key and when it was issued.
  • Return of keys: When the operator finishes the task, the key is returned to the cabinet, with the system automatically recording the return and updating the status.
  • Reporting and monitoring: The Key Management System provides extensive reporting and monitoring capabilities, allowing administrators to easily oversee key usage and quickly identify any problems.

Results

Thanks to our customized Key Management System, Sofis can now easily manage the authorization and tracking of their physical keys. The system has not only improved operational efficiency, but also provides increased safety and security for their valve operations systems.
